Haiti: After the Earthquake

by Paul Farmer

Dinner and Book Discussion

Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 6:00 – 9:00

Private residence in Cambridge, MA (near Harvard Square)

RSVP: http://www.neidonors.org/Events_GW7I.html

Join New England International Donors (NEID) for its eleventh dinner and book discussion in an intimate private setting. Bringing together donors, grantmakers, social investors and those who advise them, NEID creates a community of thoughtful and strategic funders committed to changing the world through giving. (The group is open and attendance at future book discussions is not required.)

Coming full circle since its first gathering in early 2009 to discuss Farmer‘s Mountains Beyond Mountains, the chronicle of the founding of international health care NGO Partners in Health in Haiti, NEID members will reflect on the tremendous upheaval and reconstruction in Haiti over the past 2 1/2 years.  Pointedly, guests will discuss how private philanthropy and foreign aid have both helped and hindered Haiti’s recovery.

Haiti:  After the Earthquake tells riveting stories of the early days of emergency relief after January 12, 2010 through the eyes of Dr. Paul Farmer and his colleagues. It sets these scenes against a backdrop of Haitian history and politics, foreign intervention and aid, sources of strength and degradation.

For extensive coverage of the book and excerpts from book discussion podcasts see Partners in Health‘s website. For more about the organization’s work around the world see www.pih.org.
