St. Cecilia’s Church in Boston furnishes Haiti’s National Teaching Hospital – Boston Globe

This week the first building of Haiti’s new National Teaching Hospital in Mirebalais, which will care for women and infants, was unveiled for the media and public. A central feature of its voluminous waiting room are well-used church pews lovely restored and shipped to Haiti, a donation of St. Cecilia’s Roman Catholic parish in Boston. The Boston Globe profiled this gift in this article: http://www.bostonglobe.com/news/world/2012/01/12/pews-from-cecilia-church-boston-back-bay-find-new-life-haiti

What the article did not mention is that the congregation’s priest, Father John Unni, has been traveling to and supporting the people of Haiti for years. His most recent trip was to assist with the building of the Mirebalais Hospital, doing the work of a landscaper and a laborer. In so doing, he modeled Jesus’ call for us all to be servants, with special preference to the poor.
