Application Process

Applying for Grants

The Ansara Family Fund’s fiscal year is July 1-June 30 and most grants are made in the late summer or fall. Grants for international organizations, with a few exceptions, are to support work in Haiti. Requests for Proposals are generally issued in May or June. For domestic organizations, funding is on an ad-hoc basis without an RFP. We do not consider unsolicited proposals but do welcome short Letters of Inquiry (LOIs). If any of our grantees have questions regarding the application process, please email
ansarafamilyfund@tbf.org  or amoceyunas@tpi.org

Please see our general grantmaking criteria below and direct any questions to The Philanthropic Initiative regarding international or local grants: ansarafamilyfund@tbf.org.

  • We favor general operating support and sometimes emergency grants to organizations led by local leaders.

  • We also occasionally make recoverable grants to long-term grantees to help with working capital or cash flow.

  • We take a hands-on approach to our philanthropy and prioritize support to organizations where we are involved through board service and volunteerism.

  • We support staff-development initiatives that sustain and enrich those who make up our partner organizations.

  • We apply a gender, racial, and environmental lens across our grantmaking and encourage partners to demonstrate how they are addressing equity, justice and environmental sustainability in their work.

  • As a Donor Advised Fund of The Boston Foundation we are accountable to the highest ethical standards of a leading community foundation.

  • Typical grants are $10,000, with larger grants to our six key partners: Build Health International, Health Equity International, Partners in Health, Network of Engaged International Donors, Haiti Development Institute, and the Rian Immigrant Center in Boston.
