Approach

The Ansara Family Fund makes grants to address the root causes and symptoms of global health inequity and poverty with a focus on rural Haiti.

Our mission is to:

  • ensure the right to equitable health care by building resilient, energy-efficient infrastructure and equipping staff in low-resource settings

  • revitalize communities by investing in locally led organizations promoting sustainable livelihoods, agroecology, education and health care as basic needs and human rights

  • change systems by bolstering local, regional, national, and international networks of community-focused and rights-focused organizations, leaders, and funders.

In pursuing these goals the Fund endeavors to contribute to specific UN Sustainable Development Goals, including: SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 2 (End Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals.)

Our Principles

Partnering for global health

Working with NGO partners, we build healthcare infrastructure in low-resource settings to heal and save lives, to revitalize communities, and to serve as beacons of hope.

Collaboration

We nurture and expand networks of funders, community-based organizations, small-holder farmers, educators, and health care leaders to increase their reach and effectiveness.

Bottom-up change

We support local initiatives that put the poor in charge of their own priorities, and that train the leaders and teams that work on their behalf.

Capacity building

We support intermediary organizations that accompany and provide technical and organizing assistance to grassroots and global health organizations.

Racial and Gender Justice

We advocate on behalf of society’s most marginalized persons, especially women and girls, Black, Indigenous and other People of Color and support them in fighting for their rights to education, health care, dignified work, and safety.

Environmental sustainability

We favor approaches that reduce and reverse harm to the environment.

Flexibility

As a family fund, we aim to be good listeners and respond to shifting circumstances rather than be tied to rigid plans.
