Unlocking Communities
Unlocking Communities uses a social enterprise model that trains local entrepreneurs in business fundamentals, disaster resilience, personal finance, and WaSH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) practices. The entrepreneurs are then loaned products, such as water filters and clean cook stoves, to sell to their communities. Receiving commissions, the entrepreneurs create economic impact while countering health problems caused by lack of clean water and environmental degradation resulting from cutting trees to produce charcoal.
The Ansara Family Fund has supported construction of Unlocking Communities’ water filtration system factory.
