Be Like Brit Orphanage in Grand Goave, Haiti

Builder and exquisite writer Paul Fallon, who has lived in Haiti and guided the construction of the new “Be Like Brit” orphanage for over two years, chronicles the senseless deaths in his adopted community — including the smothering of an entire family living in a tent when Hurricane Sandy triggered a mudslide this week. Conceived as a way to bring life from death, the home Paul is building for 88 orphaned children in Grand Goave is a tribute to Brit Gengel.  Brit was a college student at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FLA, who perished while visiting Haiti on a service trip during the earthquake of 2012.  Her death, and her parents’ brave search for her, received wide publicity in her home state of Massachusetts.  Unless for Paul Fallon, the daily deaths of Haitians in Grand Goave would be too commonplace to be mentioned.  Dr. Paul Farmer calls them “stupid deaths.”
