The Fanm Limye (“Women Illuminated”) Association, organized in 2013, promotes women’s social and economic empowerment in Haiti. It has built the capacity of 72 artisan groups in Port-au-Prince; trained a network of 1,108 beekeepers, organized in 32 women-led community-based groups and 4 regional associations, each with an aggregation site where beekeepers store, transform and sell their products. Following training in agroforestry, 80 percent of the beekeepers have adopted three or more agroforestry techniques and planted over 80,000 trees. 525 hives have been built by women trained locally and distributed. In 2023, the beekeeping groups added a maternal child health and nutrition educational component.
